CANTERBURY STUDENTS ARE VERY PERSUASIVE!
Today I had the very great pleasure of watching two of our talented public speakers take part in the Metropolitan South and Metropolitan South and West Public Speaking Competition for 2025. They really need to come up with a snappier title for this competition but the speeches were super engaging! We heard from speakers whose topics were as diverse as the myriad ways AI could help (or hinder) us all the way through to whether unicorns were overrated or not! Emilia represented Stage 3 and gave some very sound reasons why we should be very cautious when using AI in our everyday lives. Her impromptu topic was “Heroes and Villains" and Milly chose to speak about how our perspective really comes into play when we consider those labels. It was a really great way of taking the topic in a different direction.
Inika represented the school for Stage 2 and she spoke powerfully about why we must end child poverty. Her impromptu speech, on the topic Happiness, was about how happiness can look different depending on who you are and that we should embrace this uniqueness. The adjudicator was so impressed Inika received a Highly Commended! It was a great joy to see these two impressive speakers demonstrate their skills! Well done to both of them!
