POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR LEARNING (PBL)
Last week mainstream classes focussed on their Growth Goals. Students were asked to review their personal goals and evaluate whether they have been met. As a result, some goals may have been altered or changed. We know that when students have ownership and agency of their learning this can improve outcomes. Goals should be able to be achieved in a few weeks and students should be able to explain what it will look like when they have reached their goal. All students had time to conference with their teacher. Please discuss your child’s goals and progress with them at home, keeping the conversation positive and encouraging.
Last week in support classes, students reviewed how to Be an Effective Learner. This includes keeping our hands and feet to ourselves, working hard, listening to instructions and knowing that making mistakes is a part of the learning process. At home, you can acknowledge when your child is making great choices. Using the same language at home reinforces the messages shared by the teacher in the classroom.
This week mainstream students are learning about Safety at Home. It is important for students to feel safe at school and in the home. When emergencies happen, students need to know what to do and who to call. All families should have received an Emergency - who to call? template (see photos) to be completed with your help at home. Completing this with your child will help you understand their level of knowledge about safety procedures at home and how to respond to different emergency scenarios. You also get to engage in role play together! Who says homework can’t be interesting?
This week support classes are exploring the Yellow Zone. When we are in the yellow zone we can feel anxious, worried, overwhelmed or silly. The feelings in all zones are normal and are experienced by us all. Sometimes our feelings can come on unexpectedly. Students are focusing on identifying their feelings. Having conversations with your child about their feelings can help them to practise identifying and expressing them.

AUSTRALIAN WILDLIFE KINDERGARTEN INCURSION
On Monday the 16th of June our lucky kindergarten students were visited by some wild critters! Ranger Anthony from Australian Wildlife Displays had a yarn with our students, introducing them to, and allowing them to interact with, some amazing and uniquely Australian animals. These included Diamond the python, Bubblegum the bluetongue lizard, Blossom the ringtail possum and Snappy the baby crocodile along with many more! Students learned about the unique features of these animals, their diet and habitat. We also learned about some risks to these precious creatures and the importance of preserving and creating habitat for them to survive. This incursion supports our ‘Living Things’ unit within our Science and Technology program. Our exceptionally behaved kindies had an amazing afternoon of learning, asking questions and connecting with wildlife. Huge thanks to Ms Tzodouris for helping to facilitate this special immersive learning opportunity.

Lego Legends would like to thank the community for all the generous LEGO donations (in addition to the small fee parents paid to support the school’s purchase of additional LEGO materials). Thanks to these donations, the creativity has been endless!

LEGO Masters
Stage One and students in support classes were thrilled to take part in a special chick hatching incursion as part of our Living Things Science and Technology unit. The program gave students a wonderful opportunity to observe the fascinating life cycle of a chick up close. From watching the tiny chicks break out of their shells to gently holding and patting the fluffy newborns, the experience sparked curiosity and excitement in every classroom. It was a memorable, hands-on way to deepen our scientists’ understanding of animal life cycles and nurture their sense of wonder about the natural world. We also kept a daily scientific journal of our observations to record changes over time.
